How Smootables works

Smootables is an AI-powered planning and timetabling workspace for schools. You plan the year, the solver generates a feasible timetable, and you edit, recover, and share from the same place.

Most timetable tools start at the grid. Smootables starts a step earlier, with the plan: campuses, academic years, terms and periods, day profiles, courses, teachers, rooms, and the students who take each course. The timetable is generated from that plan, so when something cannot work you find out before the solve, in plain language, instead of staring at a grid that refuses to fill.

Two ideas run through the whole product. Schedules belong to people, so student groups and individual students live in the same planning model from the first day; see individual learning paths. And planners stay in control: the solver and the Planner assistant show what they did and why, and everything they touch can be validated, restored, or undone.

From year plan to shared timetable

  1. Plan. Model campuses, academic years, periods, and school day profiles, then place courses in the Period planning grid or the Timeline view. The Teacher Workload panel tracks weekly and yearly load while you work, and each placement carries its groups and individual students together. The academic-year planning page goes deeper.
  2. Import what you have. Bring teachers, rooms, groups, and full period plans in from Excel (.xlsx) or CSV. The import wizard steps through file, mapping, and confirm, previews the result, and resolves ambiguous matches before anything is written.
  3. Generate. The constraint solver builds a clash-free timetable from your plan. Thirteen validation checks run before the solve, and when a timetable is impossible you get a typed report of the cause with suggested fixes. Read how timetable generation works.
  4. Edit and recover. Drag lessons, swap two of them, split one in half, pin what must not move, and park the rest in the waiting area. Every generation saves a version you can restore, and manual edits land in an edit log.
  5. Share. Export as CSV, Excel with one sheet per period, or a print view for saving as PDF, filtered by teacher, room, group, or individual student. Teachers and administrators get read-only access in the app.

What is coming

Smootables is built toward the full planning lifecycle, and we keep the line between shipped and planned explicit. Publishing portals for students and parents, substitution planning connected to the master timetable, comments and multi-planner presence, live SIS and calendar sync, and AI-assisted extraction from messy documents are part of the Smootables vision, and none of them ship today. Sharing today means export plus read-only accounts. If one of these decides your purchase, ask us where it sits on the roadmap during a walkthrough.

See it on your own timetable

Book a walkthrough and we will build a small slice of your school in Smootables: your periods, your groups, your constraints. You will see what the solver says about your plan, live.
